Job Title: Protection Officer (Preferably Female) 
Duty Station: Taiz 
Contract Type: Full-time 
Duration: 9 Months 

 

Job Summary : 

Under the supervision of the Project Manager and Coordinator,  the Protection Officer will lead the implementation and coordination of protection activities in the targeted districts of Taiz Governorate. This role involves supervising field teams, ensuring quality protection monitoring, managing referrals, and coordinating with local stakeholders to address the protection needs of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and host communities. The Protection Officer will play a key role in data analysis, reporting, and ensuring that protection principles are integrated into all aspects of the project. The position requires strong leadership, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of protection issues in humanitarian contexts.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1Program Planning and Supervision

·  Develop and oversee monthly work plans for protection monitoring teams, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all IDP sites and targeted areas.

·  Supervise Protection Monitors and field staff, providing guidance, support, and capacity building.

·  Ensure that protection activities are implemented in line with project objectives, humanitarian standards, and donor requirements.

2Field Coordination and Monitoring

·  Coordinate and conduct regular field visits to monitor protection concerns and assess the needs of the affected population through surveys and interviews to understand protection risks faced by vulnerable groups, including women, children, and people with disabilities (PWDs).

·  Maintain strong relationships with community leaders, local authorities, and other stakeholders to facilitate access and ensure community engagement.

·  Lead rapid protection assessments in response to new displacements or emerging protection risks.

3Data Management and Analysis

·  Oversee the use of digital tools (e.g., KoBo) for data collection and ensure timely and accurate data uploads.

·  Analyze protection data to identify trends, risks, and gaps in service delivery.

·  Ensure safe and confidential data management in accordance with organizational policies.

4. Case Management and Referrals

·  Review and validate referrals made by Protection Monitors for services such as legal aid, psychosocial support (PSS), and emergency cash assistance.

·  Ensure timely follow-up on referred cases and coordinate with service providers to address protection needs.

·  Monitor the effectiveness of referral pathways and update them as needed.

 

5. Reporting and Documentation

·  Prepare weekly and monthly reports on protection activities, challenges, and achievements.

·  Document protection trends, success stories, and lessons learned for internal and external reporting.

·  Ensure consistency and quality in all reporting formats and data submissions.

6. Community Engagement and Awareness

·  Promote awareness of protection principles, available services, and complaint mechanisms among IDPs and host communities.

·  Support the design and implementation of community-based protection initiatives.

·  Facilitate Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) to gather community feedback.

7. Capacity Building and Team Support

·  Conducting training sessions for Protection Monitors, CBPNs, Community committees and community focal points on protection principles, data collection, and referral mechanisms.

·  Provide ongoing coaching and performance evaluations for field staff.

·  Foster a collaborative and respectful team environment.

8. Additional Duties

·  Uphold humanitarian principles and ethical standards in all Project activities, including adherence to Do No Harm principles.

·  Represent the organization in protection coordination meetings as required.

·  Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor to support the success of the protection program.

 

Qualifications and Skills: 

·  Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Human Rights, Law, or a related field. 

·  Minimum 2 years of experience in protection or humanitarian programming, including supervisory responsibilities. 

·  Strong understanding of protection principles, humanitarian law, and IDP-related policies. 

·  Native Arabic with good written and spoken English. 

·  Experience with digital data collection tools (e.g., KoBo) and data analysis. 

·  Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. 

·  Strong organizational and time management abilities. 

·  Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. 

·  Commitment to humanitarian values, neutrality, and confidentiality.
